Post Workout Snacks

As you all know, I’m all about listening to my body and what I am craving, but it’s also important to fuel up after a workout. I find that I have more energy throughout the day if I fuel up after a workout. Food is fuel, and it is essential to replenish your body with things it needs post-workout.

If I am on the go, I’ll usually grab one of my favorite protein bars. I love the Built Protein Bars so much! The protein content helps me refuel, it keeps me full and doesn’t make me crash like other protein bars.

If I have more time post-workout, I’ll make a protein shake. My favorite protein is the Ritual Essential protein (LINDSAYAC-10). It’s vanilla flavored and is filled with all clean ingredients, plus it’s so yummy. You can add this to water, milk or add it into a smoothie with berries, bananas, spinach, or anything else you’d like.

I also love to make almond butter on toast with some fruit on top. This is an easy option as well. I prefer almond butter, but add any butter you like!

My Go-To Pre-Workout Breakfast

I always get asked what I eat in the morning before my workouts and if I eat anything at all. I know everyone has their own take on eating before you work out, but I’m all about listening to my body, and if I’m hungry and know I have a big workout to get through, I like to feed it with nutritious foods. I find that I truly perform better when I have a little something in my stomach. Lately, I’ve been setting my alarm clock extra early to workout and film new videos for Move With Linds. When I get up early and know I’m working out within an hour, I usually make myself peanut butter on whole-grain toast, berries and yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, or snack on a granola bar. Carbs are energy, so if you eat them about an hour before your workout, your body will digest them enough so you don’t feel sick when you’re jumping up and down, but you won’t have used all the energy from the carbs, and you’ll use it as you power through your workout! Food = fuel, so I like to feed my body carbs and protein when I eat before my workout. Both are essential in your pre-workout breakfast because your body uses the energy from the carbs, and the protein helps repair any micro-tears in our muscle fiber, especially as we do strength workouts!

On top of my breakfast, I’ll sometimes have a pre-workout drink. I’ve been loving the Alani NU Hawaiian Shaved Ice Pre-Workout! I’ve never been the biggest pre-workout fan, but this one is all-natural and doesn’t make me jittery. It’s SO good and also helps prevent that post-workout crash. Another important part of my pre-workout meal is water! Hydration before exercise is essential. Not only does it prevent cramps during a workout, but it can cause you to have low energy. Make sure you have at least a cup of water in the morning before you start to work out to prevent injury. This collagen water from Vital Proteins is so yummy if you’re looking for something with good flavor and added benefits.

3 Snacks We Love That I Always Have Stocked

Sam and I LOVE to snack. We recently just organized our entire pantry, which made me realize just how many snacks we have. Side note: if you haven’t organized your pantry before, it’s a must. It helps keep track of everything you have and what you need more of, and it makes grocery shopping so much easier because you can check your inventory. We worked with Reset Your Nest to organize our pantry, and I can’t believe we went this long without doing that. You don’t realize just how much trash you accumulate as well as expired food items. If you’re looking to organize your pantry on your own, Amazon and The Container Store have great options for storage containers. Depending on how organized you want to get, start by taking everything out of the packaging and put it in clear containers with labels. This helps keep your food fresh longer and lets you know exactly what you have. There’s nothing like walking into a pantry and being able to see all the incredible snacks you have.

Speaking of snacks, I wanted to share 3 of our absolute favorite snacks we always have stocked. The first is Verb Bars. If you haven’t tried a Verb Bar yet, you’re missing out. They are gluten-free and vegan and made with organic green tea to provide long-lasting energy. I don’t like coffee, so I love how these bars give me energy throughout the day but don’t leave me jittery. They are only 90 calories and taste sooo delicious. I have them stocked in our pantry, but I also keep some in my car and purse because they are perfect for on the go. Newborn life is tough, and sometimes you need just a quick energy boost to get you through the day, which is why I love these bars so much.

Another snack we keep stocked is popcorn. There’s nothing like a warm bowl of popcorn when you’re sitting on the couch watching The Bachelor. We love Pop Zero popcorn. They come in so many different flavors, and it’s filled with amazing ingredients. Pro tip: sprinkle some chocolate chips on top of your popcorn and zap it in the microwave for a minute. It’s life-changing!

Last but certainly not least, we love our jerky. This is a staple in our pantry! It’s the perfect snack after a workout or when I don’t have time to make a meal but need something fast that fills me up and has protein. Whenever we drive to our cabin, we always make sure to grab a bag for the road!
